D.1: Aging or Rejuvenating? That is the problem!

Previously: Amerigo realized his LTW, and found himself a girlfriend, while Virginia had a child – Croazia – with the dancer of her bachelorette party. Nicklaus progressed in the culinary career, and Barcelona grew to a beautiful little girl.

The days that follow the birth of Croazia are not very interesting for the Mondiales. The only thing that Virginia notes in her children is the speed at which Barcelona learns everything about fluids’ physics, thanks to her brother America tutoring her. The girl isn’t nearly as quick as he was at learning logic, but it looks like she’s a little genius, too, and the brothers love each other dearly.

Life is so boring that Virginia spends some time every day reading the newspaper. She’s so good at focusing hard even on boring things that she misses the first interesting fact in days: Croazia’s birthday!

Well, at least she has something to do, now.

And also Nicklaus. Croazia learns to walk thanks to him, and he loves the little girl very much. He doesn’t suspect a thing, even though Croazia has the cinnamon hair and the grey eyes of her father. But, after all, he’s only a cook, he knows nothing of genetic, and he likes playing with the girl to relax after all the stress that the quick promotions are putting on him, even though Croazia, strangely, always seems to revel in Nicklaus’s exhaustion.

Even Amerigo, when he’s not tutoring Barcelona or hanging out with Letitia, has nothing better to do than playing with his sister. He also decides to give her his old teddy Alaska, and Croazia changes its name to Plitvice.

Occurrences like this, where she’s left to play alone, are vey rare, and she’s not happy when it happens. She’s a little spoiled, maybe, but no one cares…

But, finally, the attention shifts to Barcelona, who wishes to be, someday, the greatest chess player in the world…

And, after a good night of sleep…

…she immediately starts working on her dream, and, after the first unbeatable opponent, she appears to be assisted by some lucky star!

Meanwhile, Virginia is visiting her old friend and Amerigo’s father Bertram. The truth is that she’s only looking for an excuse to meet his other child, Courtney. Her intentions aren’t exactly ethical -he’s her son’s half brother, after all – but she only thinks that she doesn’t have to hide to meet him, like she had to do when she was seeing Croazia’s father…

Even though this does not dissuade her to convince her husband to spend the night outside, for example to bring Croazia to see the new Simsey movie Mrs Crumplebottom and the Seven Sims.

It’s a pity that during the scene in which Mrs Crumplebottom finds love, Croazia runs outside the cinema to age up to child.

And she immediately starts showing signs of a disturbing personality…

Back at home – having only chatted with Courtney – Virginia remembers that it’s her birthday too… but she doesn’t want to become an old lady, and she hasn’t discovered a potion to return young yet.

But Amerigo has. Virginia is afraid of drinking something she hasn’t created personally, but she has no choice. She stares at the flask for a long time, and then decides to carefully drink the pink fluid. It stirs something inside her; her full body shake and vibrates, so full of energy that she sparkles as if she were a strange race of vampire…

And then, suddenly, she’s young again! She can feel the sprint of youth in her muscles and the quick mind she had when she first arrived in Appaloosa Plain!

All of her worries are gone now, and she’s so grateful to Amerigo! She will have the time to bear other children, and to study them, and also to find the ingredients of that potion for the future…
